Grade 100 chain, also known as grade 100 alloy, is made of quenched and tempered alloy steel. Grade 100 chain is a newer product and is becoming increasingly popular as a placement for grade 80 chain. The chain provides about 25% higher work load limits than grade 80 chain. The grade 100 chain is often used for overhead lifting, or as tow & binder chain. However, because the chain is generally equipped with a special type of clevis grab hook, grade 100 tie down chain is not approved for overhead lifting.
